San Rafael is a city in the Marin County, California county seat. The city is located in the North Bay region of San Francisco Bay. San Rafael was once the site of several Coast Miwok villages. In 1817, Mission San Rafael Arcangel was founded in the area as the 20^th Spanish mission. The mission was initially planned as a hospital site but was granted a full mission status in 1822. Eventually, Mission San Rafael was abandoned in 1844 after the Mexican government took control of all Spanish missions in 1834.

The San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad reached San Rafael in 1879 and was linked to the national rail network in 1888. The United States Navy operated a San Pablo Bay degaussing range from San Rafael through World War II. Since then, the city has grown into what it is today. It now has over 57,000 people living there. The city continues to grow thanks to a flourishing entertainment industry. Since there are so many residents, and thus homes, in the area, it’s no surprise that maintenance and remodeling occur all the time. These construction projects require tools and supplies that very few people own.
